In a pulse generator of the type in which a pulse forming network is discharged into a load, ripple or slope at the top of the pulse waveform is minimized by connecting a transformer winding between the pulse forming network and the load, the effective impedance of the transformer being determined by the difference between the load waveform and a rectangular reference pulse or a reference voltage proportional to the amplitude of the required pulse. As shown, the pulse forming network PFN is discharged via a pulse transformer T1 into a klystron or magnetron load R when switch S is closed. A sample of the load waveform taken from a capacitive or resistive divider C1, C2 is compared at D with a reference voltage or reference waveform V1, the difference being amplified at E and fed to a valve V to control the effective impedance of a specified transformer T2 so that the top of the load pulse waveform is maintained constant. A non-linear voltage-limiting resistor or biased diode may be connected across valve V.
