Abstract
920,500. Foaming coated granules. SCHULLER SERVICES Ltd. April 20, 1959 [April 23, 1958; Nov. 14, 1958], No 13443/59. Class 87(2). A thermoplastic material, e.g. pitch, coal, tar bitumen, or asphalt, is formed into coated granules by melting the material in a tank T, pumping it through a nozzle 129 to form drops, and allowing the drops to fall through a tower P whilst blowing cooling fluid e.g. air and the coating material e.g. limestone, cement, clay, mineral flour and diatomaceous earth upwardly through a nozzle 131 and a cyclone separator 134. The granules are fed through a rotary cooler C to a packaging machine 151. The coating material is fed from a hopper H by vibrated screws 139, 144. A valve V is provided to allow the material to be recirculated, e.g. at the start of an operation. Dust is withdrawn by a fan 158. The cooling fluid may be a liquid, and it may be introduced vertically, horizontally or obliquely. The cooling fluid and the coating dust may be introduced into the tower separately. The temperature of the tower may be controlled by sprays 164.
