Abstract

The resistance to accumulation of moisture on the surface of an olefin polymer is improved by admixture of a mono- or a mixture of a mono- and a di-glyceride of a fat-forming fatty acid, e.g. those obtained by the glycerolysis of natural fats and oils, such as beef tallow, mutton tallow, butter fat, coconut oil, corn oil, cotton seed oil, lard oil, olive oil, peanut oil, soy bean oil, sesame oil, and the hydrogenated derivatives thereof. The olefin polymer may be derived from ethylene, propylene, butene, isobutylene, styrene, and combinations thereof with each other or with acrylic acids or acrylic esters. Specified monoglycerides are glyceryl mono-stearate, -palmitate, -oleate, -laurate, and mixtures thereof. Optional ingredients are preservatives such as butylated hydroxy anisole, butylated hydroxy toluene and citric acid in propylene glycol. The compositions find application as coatings and as film for wrapping meat, fruit, vegetables and flowers.
