Abstract

<PICT:0919806/III/1> Equipment for changing the paint to be sprayed in an electrostatic paint spraying plant comprises a paint distributer head 16 and a paint pump 8 mounted on a common bracket 11, supported by insulators 12, the distributer head being connected by insulating shafting 23 to drive means including a gear unit 25, associated with a potentiometer 26, and a motor 28, and the pump 8 being connected by insulating shafting 6 to drive means comprising a low speed motor 1 coupled to a high speed motor 5 by a free-wheel overrunning clutch 4. The distributer head 16 comprises a multi-way valve and the potentiometer 26 is associated therewith for remote control purposes. The pump 8 can be driven at lower variable speeds by regulatable drive means 1, 2, or at a high constant speed by the motor 5. The distributer head 16 comprises a casing with a number of radial channels each communicating with a nipple 21, and a valve plug which enables any desired channel to communicate with a delivery nipple 42, which is connected with the spraying device. One of the nipples 21 is connected to a tank of a flushing medium, and the remainder to paint storage tanks. An electrical control unit is provided for setting the position of the head 16 and for controlling the sequence of changing operations. Thus, after pre-selection of a different lacquer, the head 16 is automatically adjusted by the servo-motor 28 to admit flushing medium, the pump 8 is driven at high speed by the motor 5, the head 16 is registered to a fresh paint admission pipe while the pump is stationary, the motor 5 is operated briefly to drive the pump at high speed and then switched off, and the pump is finally driven at normal, low speed by the regulatable drive means 1, 2 through the over-running clutch 4.
