Abstract

919,762. Cutting-tools; brazing. MANCHESTER MACHINE & TOOL CO. Oct. 18, 1960, No. 35685/60. Classes 83 (3) and 83 (4). A cutting tool bit comprises a shank 11 and carbide or like tips 12, 13 brazed to the shank with a male and female connection between tips and shank. The shank 11, Fig. 2, has a tapering projection 14 at each end which engages a corresponding recess 15 in the tips. In a modification the recesses and projections are of tapered triangular form, or two tapered pins on each end of the shank engaging corresponding bores in the tips may be provided. In a further modification, Fig. 7, the top 70 has angled faces 77a-77d and 76a-76d, which engage corresponding faces 74a-74d and 75a-75d on the shank respectively. In a still further modification, Fig. 8, a brazing sheet 90 having a brass layer 93 and silver solder layers 94, 95, is interposed between a projection 88 on shank 80 and a recess 89 on tip 81, or the male and female connection may be normal to that shown in Fig. 8. Each of the joints described makes use of a brazing sheet similar to sheet 90, and the male members of the joints may be on the tips instead of the shank.
