Abstract
1,197,881. Cutting tools for mining machines. COAL [INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. 22 Sept., 1967 [5 July, 1966], No. 30076/66. Heading E1F. A cutting-tool for a rotary cutting member of a mining machine comprises a body part 2, an end part 3 having a cutting-tip 9 secured to it and quick release securing means for securing the end-part to the body part, a tapered spigot 4 formed on the body part being engageable with a correspondingly tapered socket 5 on the end part. The spigot 4 has a groove 6 engaged by a pin 8 passing through the end part 3. The tip is of hard metal and is brazed, forged or shrunk to the end part 3. In a .second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the tip 9 is .removable from the end part 3, the tip being held in position and the parts 2, 3 being releasably secured together by a screw. Other examples of the quick release securing means are a resilient plunger or ring on the end part engaging with a recess or spigot on the body part. Cooperating flats may be provided on the spigot and the socket.
