Abstract

919,111. Feeding webs. OTA, K. Nov. 26, 1959 [Dec. 5, 1958], No. 40284/59. Class 100 (1). A replacement web 27<SP>1</SP> from a roll B is spliced to an expiring- running web 27 from a roll A by rollers 12, 23. The rolls A and B are carried on a support 6 mounted on a spindle 3 supported by a frame 1. The roller 12 has an uneven surface 16 for crimping the webs 27, 27<SP>1</SP> together. The replacement web 27<SP>1</SP> is held to the roller 12 prior to splicing by suction, the roller spindle 13 being hollow and communicating with a slot 15 for this purpose. A switch 17 on the roller 12 controls the supply of suction, such that the web 27<SP>1</SP> is released after splicing. A knife 23 cuts the expiring web. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), the web 27<SP>1</SP> is held to the roller 12 by a clamping device 28 actuated by the switch. 17. Alternatively, the roller 12 may embody a. heating device forsplicing the webs which are provided with a length of thermoplastic film for this. purpose.
