918,337. Cutting apparatus. TIMSON, E. A. Feb. 17, 1961 [Feb. 25, 1960], No. 6670/60. Class 31 (1). Web severing mechanism for cutting a travelling web W of paper or the like along a transverse line disposed at a desired angle relatively to the longitudinal edges thereof comprises a frame 1 adapted to extend transversely across the path of travel of the web and a cutting blade 9 fixed upon a carrier 10 which is traversable longitudinally along the frame by means of a double-acting piston-and-cylinder unit 11 mounted on the frame, the frame being pivotable about an extension 3a of a spindle 3 and the angular disposition of the frame being adjustable by means of a manually-operable screw 21 engaged with a barrel nut 22 carried by the frame. The carrier 10 is supported by an endless chain 8, or belt, passing around sprockets 7, or pulleys, located on spindles 2, 3. The piston 15 of the unit 11 is connected by an element 16 to chains 13, 14 passing around sprocket-wheels 12 on the spindles 2, 3 so that the chain 8 is driven from the unit 11 by means of a step-up transmission. The blade 9 cooperates with a groove 18 between two abutment members 17 or. in a single abutment member. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 839,441.
