Abstract
918,184. Berths. CARTER-RUCK, P. F. Sept. 27, 1961 [Dec. 15, 1960], No. 43255/60. Class 52 (2). A bunk unit comprises a bench seat having a seat 11 and backrest 14 which is hinged along the lower edge 15 for folding downwardly into the seat 11 (Fig. 4) to provide space for a cot 17, the backrest also being hinged at 16 along its length and intermediate in the height so that when the backrest is folded downwardly, the lower part rests along the bench seat 11 and the upper part may be folded upwardly to reveal part of a bench seat and to form the backrest of a narrower seat. The backrest 14 forms the door of a locker 12. When the door is closed (Fig. 2) bolts 23 may engage sockets 24 in the lower part of the door and the upper hinge 16 will be held fast. Bolts 22 hold the backrest in either of the upright positions shown in Figs. 2 and 4. The cot 17 is of canvas and is supported along its outside edge by a movable bar 18 and at its inner edge by a batten 19 screwed to the hull 10 of a small boat. When the cot is stowed (Fig. 2), the movable bar 18 fits into retaining brackets 21 inside the locker 12 and when the cot is in use (Fig. 4) the bar 18 fits into brackets 20 fixed to the bulk heads.
