A device for preventing explosions in vessels driven by inboard petrol or diesel engines comprises means 3 for collecting any leakage of petrol in the vessel and a pipe 13 passing through the hull and directed aft of the vessel for exhausting by vacuum or suction such petrol end fumes arising therefrom. The means 3 may comprise an inclined or funnel shaped tray or container placed under the carburetter and petrol pump or may comprise a plurality of trays or containers, one of which is placed under the carburetter and another under the pump. A second pipe extends from the container 3 independently of the first, or, as shown, forming a branch 7 of the first pipe 13, the petrol which leaks into the container and the fumes formed in same being exhausted through the first pipe by vacuum caused by motion of the vessel, and/or through the second pipe by the suction caused by an electric blower in the vessel. The pipes are provided with valves 9, 11. The carburetter or pump may be enclosed in a perforated casing having at its base the tray or container.
