Abstract
<PICT:0603593/III/1> An apparatus for de-aerating liquids comprises a vacuum vat 1, a distributing element 4 disposed inside and towards the top of the vat, an inlet pipe 2 and an evacuation pipe 22 disposed near a cover 20 of the vat and provided for evacuation of liberated gases, a pump body 5 disposed in the lower part of the vat so that its upper part a is inside and its base b is outside the vat, apertures c being provided on a level with the base of the vat to enable de-aerated liquid to pass into the pump body in which slides a piston 6, the pump body communicating in its lower position with a discharge pipe f on which is fitted a spring valve 7 so arranged as to close the pipe when it is not subjected to the pressure of the liquid driven by the piston. The pump body, which is preferably rigidly connected with the vat, may at its lower part be fixed removably to a base on which are mounted the discharge pipe and driving gear for the pump. The liquid to be de-aerated is caused to fall downwardly in a thin film by means of the distributing element which may comprise a cup member 4 against which strikes liquid under pressure from a nozzle 3, or a circular chamber which receives the liquid under pressure, the chamber having beneath its lower surface an annular slit or a plurality of parallel rectilinear slits. The de-aerated liquid is discharged from the vat by the thrust of the lower surface of the piston. An antipulsating device, such as a buffer chamber with means for evacuating the liquid therefrom and means for introducing a gas therein, may be connected to the discharge pipe.
