917,795. Generating combustion products under pressure. UNITED AIRCRAFT CORPORATION. March 22, 1961 [April 1, 1960], No. 10411/61. Class 51 (1). Combustion equipment such as for a gas turbine engine comprises a plurality of flame tubes disposed within an annular air casing, each flame tube comprising a shell of circular cross-section and one or more annular air inlet centre-tubes concentric with the axis of the shell to define combustion zones which have nozzles for admitting fuel which is burned with air from inlet openings in the shell and tube or tubes. The flame tube shown in Fig. 3 comprises one annular centre-tube 38 formed by inner and outer walls 42, 40 disposed concentrically within the flame tube shell 36. The walls of the centre-tube merge at their upstream ends with the wall of the shell 36 and at their downstream ends to form a close end 54. The walls of the centre-tube and shell are formep with openings 59<SP>1</SP> and 56<SP>1</SP> for inlet of primary air to the combustion spaces 58 and fuel is supplied thereto through injectors 64. Cooling or dilution air inlet openings are provided at 62. The outer and inner air easing walls are indicated at 28 and 30. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4, a centre-tube 70 disposed at the axis 34 of the flame tube is provided in addition to one annular centre-tube 38<SP>1</SP>, thus affording two annular combustion zones 58, while in a third embodiment two annular centre-tubes are provided, one being radially within the other, and affording two annular and one central tubular combustion zones.
