686,383. Generating combustion products under pressure. ROLLS-ROYCE, Ltd. June 9, 1950 [June 27, 1949], No. 17028/49. Class 51 (i). In an air-jacketed type of combustion chamber for gas turbine engines, the air entering the inlet end of the flame tube is separated from that flowing around the outside of the flame tube by means comprising a duct part made in one piece of which one edge divides the air flow and which is supported from the wall of the expansion chamber portion of the air casing by one or more struts, the outlet end of the duct part also supporting the inlet end of the flame tube. In the case of combustion equipment of the type comprising a flame tube mounted in an individual air casing, or of the type comprising a plurality of flame tubes in an annular air casing, the duct part 15 is of frusto-conical form and is supported by three struts 16 from the wall of the expansion chamber 10a and the mouth of the flame tube 11 is supported on the cylindrical seat 23 formed on the duct part, the radial wall 24 being provided to limit axial movement of the flame tube. The struts 16 are extended at 16a and form a boss 19 on which is mounted a fuel injector 20, ducts 21 being formed in the strut for the flow of oil from the union plug 22. In the case of combustion equipment of the type comprising an annular flame tube in an annular air casing, Fig. 7, the means for dividing the air into the two streams comprises an annular duct 58 of divergent cross-section formed of a number of duct parts, the cross-section of each of which is a sector of an annulus. Each duct part has an integral strut 59 which is connected to the outer wall of the air casing and the radially inner and outer walls of each duct part have axial flanges which together provide annular seats to support the inner and outer walls of the flame tube. The inner and outer walls of the air casing are connected by radial webs 65 on which are formed axially-extending bosses 66 which carry at their downstream ends, fuel injection devices 67.
