917,479. Electromagnetic switches. BROOKHIRST IGRANIC Ltd. Aug. 25, 1961 [Sept. 23, 1960], No. 30697/61. Class 38 (5). The core of an electromagnetic contactor is accurately located with respect to fixed contacts carried by the contactor housing by extensions of its pole faces which engage parts of the housing. As shown, the outer limbs 42a, 42b of the core 42 have projections which fit in recesses 24 of the identical housing parts 10, 12 so that extensions of pole faces 26 engage faces 23 under the biasing action of a spring 14 in a housing recess 16. Further recesses 30 assist in the sideways lccation of the core 42 and cushion blocks 19 assist the springs 14 and absorb the shock of armature engagement on the core 42. Fixed contacts 32 ere secured, by rivets, to the housing 10, 12 and project through apertures 34 to co-operate with moving contact-bridges 50 carried in apertures 51 in a carrier 46 moulded on to the armature 48 and biased by a spring 44. The contact-bridges 50 each have a U-shaped centre portion 52 enveloping a spring 57 which retains the bridge in the aperture 51 and provides the contact resilience. Each bridge 50 can be reversed to provide a normally-open or a normally-closed contact arrangement. Guide ribs 64 in the housing 10, 12 engage in slots 62 in barriers 60 of the carrier 46 and increase the insulating distance between the contacts as do the recesses 10b, 12b in the housing and ribs 55a on the carrier 46. Rivets 42e, 42g in slots 42d, 42f with clamping-plates 42c of the core 42 act as shading rings on the outer links 42a, 42b.
