[Also in Group XXXVI] A method of manufacturing a coaxial cable in which the insulated spacers are slotted discs includes the steps of simultaneously moving at an angle to each other two strips of insulating plastic material to engage a moving centre conductor by a slot in each strip, blanking out a disc around each slot and simultaneously blanking a further slot in each strip adjacent the disc portion already blanked out. In a preferred arrangement each spacer comprises a pair of slotted discs 1 (Fig. 12), with their slots at right-angles. Two strips 24, 25, e.g. of polythene are moved at right-angles and each reciprocation of a cutting member 19 punches a slot in each strip and simultaneously blanks out adjacent discs around the slots punched during the previous action. The strips 24, 25 then move on and the slots engage the centre conductor 18, the punching action being repeated and the moving conductor 18 then carrying with it the blanked-out pair of discs 1. The spacers are then softened with hot air and pressed between moving moulds (Fig. 17, not shown), to seal each pair together. An insulating sheath 9 (Fig. 7), may then be extended around the centre conductor and its spacers and then the conventional outer conductor 5, screen 7, and protection 8 added. The insulating layer 9 may be omitted.
