Abstract

916,255. Compression mixing appliances. BEKEN, H. F. Oct. 5, 1961 [Oct. 28, 1960], No. 37214/60. Class 86. [Also in Group V] A compression mixing machine for pasty substances of high viscosity, and suitable for preparing such substances from a powder and liquid, comprises a tubular mixing chamber 3 partitioned by apertured plates 12 through which the materials are forced by the rotating screw 1, the thread of which is interrupted at the plates 12. The apertures in the plates may consist of slots extending radially inwards from the periphery; as shown, the plates have pairs of slots 13 on the inlet side converging to a common outlet slot 14. Solid materials are supplied through a hopper 4 (see Fig. 1, not shown), and liquids through the pipes 16. The mix may be extruded through a die 19. A heat-exchange fluid may be circulated through the jacket 15 and/or passages in the screw 1 and its shaft 2. The mixing chamber and plates may be split along the axis of the machine for ease of removal and cleaning.
