Abstract
Relates to penicillins of the formula <FORM:0916205/IV (b)/1> wherein R1 stands for a hydrocarbon radical, optionally substituted, and the salts thereof. Preferably R1 stands for an aralkyl radical such as benzyl or an aryl or alkyl radical, optionally substituted, for example an alkyl radical substituted by the A.CS.S-radical, where A stands for the radical of formula: <FORM:0916205/IV (b)/2> for example the A.CS.S(CH2)n-radical where n stands for an integer from 1 to 6. The penicillins may be made by interaction of 6-aminopenicillanic acid or a salt thereof and a trithiocarbonate of the formula R1S.CS.SR2 or X(S.CS.SR2)2 wherein R2 stands for a hydrocarbon radical, optionally substituted, and X stands for an alkylene radical. An example describes the production of 6-benzylthiothiocarbonylaminopenicillanic acid by reacting 6-aminopenicillanic acid with dibenzyl trithiocarbonate.ALSO:Pharmaceutical preparations comprise a penicillin of the formula <FORM:0916205/VI/1> wherein R1 stands for a hydrocarbon radical, optionally substituted (see Group IV (b)), or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, in admixture with an inert non-toxic diluent or carrier. The preparation may also contain other penicillins such as benzyl-, phenoxymethyl- or a -phenoxyethyl-penicillin or a pharmaceutically-acceptable salt thereof. The preparations may be in the form of tablets, granules, capsules, dispersible powders, aqueous or non-aqueous solutions or suspensions or ointments.
