Abstract

916,016. Glasshouses; glazing. BARTLETT, J. P. April 13, 1959 [April 11, 1958], No. 12516/59. Classes 20 (1) and 20 (3). A glasshouse comprises a plurality of spaced l-seetion arches 10 covered on the inside and outside by a sheet of polythene 13 braced within or tightened around grooves 15 in the arches by rods 14, 34. Alternatively, U-section rods 14 may engage over longitudinal ribs on the arches 10. The feet of the arches 10 are fastened within U-section sills 12 by bolts 20 which pass through the flanges 21 of the arches 10. The polythene 13 is held on the flanges 18 of the sill by retaining-members 29 and bolts 30. The threaded ends 16 of the rods 14, 34 pass through the members 29 and flanges 18 and are stressed by nuts 19, 35. The sills 12 are secured by bolts 24 to a concrete foundation 23. A clevis lever, Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown), may provide a quick release for the rods 14. The inner polythene sheet is supported at the ridge of the arches 10 over a horizontal rod held by spaced rings, Fig. 4 (not shown). In another embodiment, Fig. 12 (not shown), the l-section arches 10 are replaced by two parallel tubes welded together at one side with the rod 14 engaging in the other.
