[Also in Group XXXVI] In apparatus for detecting the presence of conductive or magnetic bodies of the type described in Specification 910,630, extra stages are provided to control a motor-controlling relay 6. The sensing coil 8 forms part of a 1000 kc/s. oscillator 1 the output of which is normally taken across a resonant circuit 2 tuned to the same frequency, negative halfcycles being passed by a diode 22 to maintain transistor 26 conductive. Transistor 27, forming part of a Schmitt trigger circuit, is therefore non-conductive, transistor 28 conductive and transistor 40 non-conductive so that the relay 6 is not energized. When an iron or non- ferrous body is brought within the vicinity of the sensing coil 8, the frequency of oscillator 7 is changed so that the voltage passed by diode 22 is insufficient to maintain transistor 26 conductive. The Schmitt trigger circuit comprising transistor 27, 28 changes state, rendering transistor 40 conductive and energizing relay 6. The supply voltage is stabilized by a Zener diode 47.
