Abstract

1331902 Proximity switches INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 10 Feb 1972 [15 Feb 1971] 6236/72 Heading G1N An inductive proximity switch of the type in which the oscillations of an oscillator 1 are damped by a conducting and/or ferromagnetic body moving past an inductance 5 forming part of the oscillator circuit is provided with a controllable damping circuit 4 for checking the operation of the switch. When a control signal is applied to terminal 7 of the damping circuit transistor T2 conducts thereby damping the oscillator circuit 1. If the circuit is operating correctly the damping has the same effect as a body being detected and the oscillations of transistor T3 cease causing transistor T1 to switch off and produce a step voltage at 6. Transistor T2 may be replaced by two transistors enabling the damping to be performed in two stages. By replacing transistors T2 by an FET the latter may be used as a variable resistor and a variable control signal may be applied thereto.
