Abstract

<PICT:0915525/III/1> A liquid or gas mixture to be analysed is admitted at 86a (see Fig. 3) into a gas chromatographic column 86 filled with "Celite" (Registered Trade Mark), kieselguhr, activated alumina, activated carbon, clay or starch. The sample is forced through the column 86 by a cylinder 87 of compressed air, nitrogen or helium, the various constituents emerging in a definite order into the electrolytic cell 60 which may comprise a graphite electrode 66 and a platinum gauze electrode 68 (see Group XXXVI). Each constituent provides a peak indication on the recording galvanometer 18. A suction device 89 and a backing-off circuit 82, 83 are provided. Part of the tube 86 is made flexible to enable the cell 60 to be agitated after each test. The apparatus is suitable for analysing mixtures of alcohols or petrols.
