A dental handpiece having a built-in turbine 11 or other motor for driving a dental tool 2, includes a vibration damping element such as a vulcanized rubber tube 31 enclosing the turbine unit 22 for minimizing vibration transmitted from the turbine 11 to the main part of the handpiece. In alternative embodiments (not shown), a vulcanized rubber disc is disposed between the head and the head shank, or an integral head and head shank is formed of rubber, or a metal head shank is secured by vulcanization to an annular rubber member which encloses partly or completely a tubular metal turbine housing.
