Abstract
Polycaprolactam containing caprolactam monomer is purified by evaporating the monomer from the polymer in the presence of inert gas and removing the caprolactam vapour from the inert gas stream by contact with liquid caprolactam. The liquid caprolactam is preferably at about 75 DEG C. The inert gas may be recycled, if necessary after drying at least a portion thereof. A part may be replaced by fresh inert gas before recycling. The condensed caprolactam may be used directly for polymerization. Specifications 676,585 and 798,659 are referred to.ALSO:Caprolactam monomer is recovered from polymeric caprolactam containing said monomer by evaporating the monomer from the polymer in the presence of inert gas and removing the caprolactam vapour from the inert gas stream by contact with liquid caprolactam. The liquid lactam is preferably kept at about 75 DEG C. The inert gas may be recycled, if necessary after drying at least a portion thereof. A part of the inert gas may be replaced by fresh inert gas before recycling. The condensed caprolactam may be used directly for polymerization. Specifications 676,585 and 798,659 are referred to.
