Abstract
915,213. Garment stretchers. NICOLSON, J. W. Sept. 29, 1961 [Nov. 21, 1960], No. 39954/60. Class 141. [Also in Group XIII] A garment-stretching device for stretching knitted jerseys &c. particularly after washing, has a body section comprising two bars 1 connected to an intermediate member 2 by pivoted links 3, 4, and a sleeve section comprising an upper bar 8 hinged to lower bars 17 which are tenoned at 17a to pass through mortices 6 in the bars 1 and bear against the edges 18 of the links 3, 4. A tongue 10, slotted at 11, is connected to the member 2 and passes through a mortice 9 in the bar 8 and is clamped when necessary by means of a screw and wing- nut 12. The rounded upper edges 14 of the upper links 3 slide in a groove 15 in the underside of the bar 8. An adjusting piece 20 is pivoted to each bar 17 at one end 21 and at the other end 23 to a rod 24 which slides in the groove 15 and is retained therein by two staples 25. Two bars 27 with outwardlyfacing hooks 28 in their top edges for engaging the lower edge of the garment are arranged one on each side of the bars 1 and are held in place by means of pins 29 engaging selected notches 30. Helical springs 7, 19 hold the device against expansion and feet 32 are provided. The garment is first placed on the sleeve part of the device, then the sleeve section is fitted to the body section and the device is adjusted to the size of the garment by pushing the intermediate bar 2 and the sleeve bar 8 towards each other. The bars 1 are thereby moved apart and inner ends of bars 17 downwardly displaced due to contact with the links 3. After the links 3 have moved a certain distance, their upper ends displace the ends 26 of the rods 24, thus continuing the expansion of the sleeve section.
