Abstract
Sulphide pigments are rendered organophilic by mixing an aqueous suspension of the pigment with a solution of a cation active substance containing at least one alkyl group of at least 8 carbon atoms, and dissociating readily in water, after which the pigments are separated and dried. The cation active substance may be a salt, for example the halide, nitrate, sulphate, or acetate, of an -onium, -ynium, or -ylium base, such as cetyl-trimethyl-ammonium chloride, dicetyl-diethyl-ammonium bromide, dimethyl-dioctadecyl-ammonium bromide, cetylpyridium bromide, and cetyl-methylene-etherpyridinium chloride. Sulphides referred to are zinc, arsenic, antimony, mercury, and stannous sulphide. Specification 778,297 is referred to.
