Abstract
914,814. Piezo-electric crystals. KRISTALLVERARBELTUNG NECKARBISHOFSHEIM G.m.b.H. June 26, 1959 [June 26, 1958], No. 21935/59. Class 40 (8). Frequency-trimming of a piezo-electric oscillator is effected by evaporating material on to the oscillator using a heat source outside the sealed envelope. In the case of an electroded oscillator 1, Fig. 1, the material 3a is contained in depressions 13 in the walls of the sealed container 4 opposite the electrodes 2a, 2b. Heat is applied to the material by means of e.g. a soldering iron. The material may be gold, silver or a non-metal such as a halogen. It is selected to differ from the material of the electrodes and of the envelope particularly as regards melting-point, vapour pressure and heat conductivity. The oscillator 1a of Fig. 2 is provided with separate electrodes 10a, 10b and these are formed with depressions to contain material 3a to be evaporated. Heat is applied through the mounting screws of the electrodes. The envelopes may be evacuated or may be gas-filled.
