Abstract

In the dyeing of yarns or fabrics with vat dyestuffs by impregnation or immersion in a highly dispersed vat dyestuff liquor followed by reduction and oxidation, more uniform dyeings are obtained by adding to the dye liquor a surface-active sulphonate of an alkylated naphthalene, e.g., the sodium salt of diisobutyl-naphthalene sulphonic acid, and a halogenated carboxylic acid, e.g., mono-, di- or tri-chloroacetic acid or a chloropropionic acid. Examples are given.
