[Also in Groups XXI and XXV] Means for inclusion in a cable haulage system of a mineral-mining machine for allowing of controlled failure of the haulage system in the event of the system being overloaded. The means comprises two centrally-apertured plates j, k secured together in a spaced-apart relationship by a pair of cables n, n, each of the mechanical strength of the cable c, e of the haulage means associated with the means. The ends of said cable c, e are passed through apertures in the plate j, k and then have couplings f, g, preferably of male and female form, secured thereto. The couplings f, g are secured together by means, e.g. a pin i, that will fail before the cable c, e fails under overload. The parts j, k, m, n of the means limit flying of the cable c, e should failure occur.
