Abstract

In an electric delay detonator having two metal casings, one within the other, the inner case 4 has a perforated end wall and contains: igniting head 3, metallic spacer 11, delay element 5 and a filter device 6 to prevent slag but allow flame to pass, and the outer case 7 contains, in addition to the inner case 4, a spacer 8 and primary and secondary charges 9, 10. The filtering device may comprise one or more discs of gauze (0.040 to 0.125 mm.) or a diaphragm of metal M which grooves are provided to form a labyrinth which permits the passage of flame, but prevents the passage of slag. The tube wall thicknesses are so chosen that the casing 4 is not fractured.
