[Also in Group V] Tamping members 231 are vibrated with staggered movements by an electromagnetic device comprising a casing 233, windings 258 and a frequency changer 261. The rods 231a of the tamping members are guided in the casing and carry iron core members 259 which are periodically attracted into the windings on the application of an alternating current thereto. The cores 260 abut against stops 260 in their uppermost positions.
