Abstract

913,240. Centrifuging yarn cakes. FRAUCHIGER, H. April 15, 1959 [April 16, 1958], No. 12890/59. Class 34 (2). An apparatus for centrifuging a yarn cake 11 has an apertured tube 1, Fig. 1, connected to a hollow driving shaft 6 and surrounded by an apertured jacket 23 housing a perforated yarn-carrying cage 20, a cover 24 adapted to seal-off the cage and the damming space between the cage and the jacket being removably seated on the tube. The cover 24, which suspends a cover 28 for contacting the yarn, is held against the tube 1 by a spring 17 and ball 16 jamming device and in one embodiment using a small diameter cage 20 (left side, Fig. 1), contacts a sealing ring 26 carried by the jacket 23 whilst in another embodiment utilizing a large diameter cage (right side, Fig. 1) carries the ring 26 which contacts a surface 23a supported by the jacket. Abutments 22 in the jacket are provided for centring any particular cage 20. The driving shaft 6 and tube 1 are bored, e.g. at 29, to allow treatment fluid, e.g. dye, to pass through the yarn during centrifuging. In two further embodiments (left and right-hand side, Fig. 2), the floor 31 of the cage 34 and the underside of the cover 38 have circular ribs 32, 37 to prevent the yarn from spreading out too vigorously under the centrifugal forces evolved. The floor of the cage or the cover may be axially movable during the centrifuging. The cage floor may co-operate with flyweights which lift the floor in accordance with the speed of rotation of the apparatus. The cover may be connected to an hydraulic pressure system through a tube 39 by means of which system the cover may be displaced during the centrifuging in correspondence with the shortening in length of the yarn cake then taking place.
