Abstract

913,165. Determining pitch of gear teeth. ZAHNRAEDERFABRIK RENK A.G. Oct. 30, 1958 [Dec. 9, 1957], No. 34770/58. Class 106 (2). To derive the expected axial play of herring- bone gears due to pitch errors in the teeth, the differential pitch errors between the two spur rings, 1a and 1b are recorded directly by means of a pair of toothed measuring members 25, 26, in the form of separate master gears, engaging the spur rings. Differential pitch errors will produce relative rotation of the master gears as these roll over the spur rings, and are indicated on a gauge 31 carried by one master gear, a needle 30 of the gauge following a stop 28 on the other master gear. To obtain a record diagram of the relative error curve for one revolution, a recording drum 34 (Fig. 12) is provided on the casing 35-36 of an epicyclic gear system with the herringbone gear-wheel 1 as the sun-wheel, and the master gears 25, 26 and a further pair of gears 32, 33 as the planet-wheels. The basic measuring system 27-31 of Fig. 9 is used and is modified to include a stylus. It is said that the recording drum 34 is driven by rotation of the frame 35, 36 relative to the gear-wheel 1. In another embodiment, the relative rotation of the master gears is transmitted to an indicator by means of an eccentric rod carried by one of the gears and extending, with ample clearance, through an aperture in the other towards the indicator.
