Abstract

913,036. Helicopter undercarriages. DORNIER-WERKE G.m.b.H. Aug. 14, 1961 [Sept. 16, 1960], No. 29256/61. Class 4. A helicopter undercarriage comprises skids mounted on the fuselage by struts made of a material which is highly elastic, and breaks without first undergoing plastic deformation, e.g. a glass fibre reinforced plastics material. In the plan view of Fig. 2, a forwardly and downwardly extending strut 6, and two downwardly rearwardly and laterally extending struts 7, terminate in integral ground contacting skid portions. Alternatively, the skids may be separate readily replaceable units of the same or different material, and may be reinforced by sheet steel. The struts may be clamped to the fuselage so as to be readily replaceable. On touch-down, the struts provide shockabsorption by elastic deformation, the skids sliding outwardly. Too severe an impact results in fracture of the struts, but not permanent deformation. Strut 6 supports your control pedals 8 for the occupant of seat 9. There may be two struts in front of, and one behind, the centre of gravity of the helicopter.
