Abstract

912,993. Insulation for dynamo-electric machines. GENERAL MOTORS Ltd. July 26, 1961 [July 26, 1960], No. 25944/60. Class 35. [Also in Group IX] A method of making a coil, particularly a field coil for a dynamo-electric machine, comprises cutting pairs of slits 2, 3 in a strip 1 of flexible insulating material, the slits extending from each longitudinal edge to a central longitudinal portion 4, joining the two ends of the central portion 4, placing or winding the coil 14 contiguous the central portion 4, folding the pairs of flaps 7, 8, 9 about the coil 14 and securing together the ends of each pair of flaps. The strip 1 is preferably folded along scored lines 10, 11 and the tab 5 is attached to the other end to form a bobbin on which the coil 14 is wound whilst the bobbin is supported by a mandrel 12. The strip 1 is of paper or material that can be sealed by application of heat. The ends of each pair of flaps are joined by thermo-setting adhesive or by stitching, crimping or by means of interlocking portions.
