912,691. Control systems for X-ray apparatus. SIEMENS - REINIGER - WERKE A.G. Jan. 15, 1960 [Jan. 16, 1959], No. 1639/60. Class 38 (4). A control system for an X-ray apparatus comprises means for changing the emission current of the X-ray tube during an exposure by changing the filament current from a high to a low value. The character of an exposure is determined by the value of the voltage supplied to the anode of the X-ray tube 3 which voltage is set by adjustment of the output voltage of a transformer 1 by means of a selector 4, operation of which simultaneously sets the emission current of the tube by adjusting the voltage output of a transformer 6 and hence the voltage applied to the heater of the X-ray tube 3. Initiation of an exposure is effected by manual operation of a device 13 which causes contacts 12 to close to apply voltage to the anode of the tube. After a part of the exposure time has expired the filament circuit is broken by opening of contacts 15 and at the same time contacts 17 open to insert a resistor 18 into the anode circuit. After a predetermined time contacts 16 close to re-establish the filament circuit through a resistor 14 whereby the exposure is continued with a reduced emission current. Finally, contacts 12 open to end the exposure. The reduction in the emission current may be arranged in more than one stage. An exposure timer 8 with a sensing member 9 may be provided whereby the exposure may be automatically terminated and a device such as a Bucky diaphragm may also be included.
