Abstract
Dibenzyl tin dichlorides which may or may not carry substituents in the benzene nucleus are prepared by reacting tin with benzyl chloride or a benzyl chloride substituted in the nucleus at an elevated temperature and cooling the mixture to precipitate the desired dibenzyl tin dichloride, the reagents being used in proportions of 1 mol of tin to not less than 10 mols of the benzyl chloride. Preferably the tin is finely divided and the mixture is stirred vigourously. Unreacted tin may be filtered off before cooling to precipitate the product and both it and the excess benzyl chloride may be used in a further preparation. Specification 878,958 is referred to.
