Abstract

A process for the colouration of cellulose textile materials comprises applying thereto (1) an aqueous solution containing a dyestuff which has one or more isothiouronium salt groups attached through methylene linkages to aromatic nuclei, (2) a resin-forming composition, (3) an acid catalyst and (4) a colourless water-soluble quaternary ammonium salt having a cation of the formula <FORM:0912348/IV (b)/1> , where R is an alkyl or aralkyl radical and B is the residue of a tertiary base, drying the material and baking it. Suitable dyestuffs are mentioned in Specifications 576,270, 587,636 and 613,980. The resin-forming composition is one known to be useful for the production of textile materials having finishes resistant to creasing or to shrinking or of modified handle. A number of acid catalysts are specified. Preferred components <FORM:0912348/IV (b)/2> are laurylpyridinium, cetyltrimethylammonium, cetylpyridinium, tetradecylpyridinium and dimethylphenylbenzylammonium and may have as their anion chloride, bromide or methosulphate. The baking may be carried out at 120-170 DEG C., preferably at 150 DEG C. Examples of dyeing cotton are given. Specification 846,505 also is referred to.
