A swing axle rear suspension with pneumatic springs 12 has each brake shoe carrier 14 mounted on a lever 16 pivoted to the chassis at 17 and on a swing axle at 15. On braking a downward force is applied to the chassis at 17 to compensate or over-compensate for the pitching movement produced on the vehicle depending on the length of the lever.
