In a tubular cardboard carton formed of one or more sheets and having a lid c torn out of the blank at its first opening the ends of the tube are closed by cylindrical or parallelepiped members b, Fig. 3, the width of these members from comers 15, 16 being greater than the distance 2, 8 on the carton so that the members support the lid when closed, The members b may be secured in the carton by a thermo-adhesive glue, by stapling, or by tongue and slot means. The carton may be cylindrical or polygonal, and the members b may be moulded or stamped. A corrugated sheet may reinforce the bottom of the carton, or the side walls may be reinforced. The carton may comprise two sheets, Fig. 6, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 31, 41, 5, 6<SP>1</SP> the portions 1, 2, and 5, 6<SP>1</SP> being secured together only at their ends so that the lid can be tucked between them when re-closed. Instead of the lid being marked by a line of perforations before tearing open, it may be cut out and sealed with a strip of thin paper. The box may have flaps at the open ends which are folded in usual manner, after the members b have been secured in position. The carton may have a transparent sheet on its inside beneath the lid which is opened by a rip wire. The members b may form part of a mounting for the contents which may be ampoules.
