Abstract

911,746. Blasting. MARSTON EXCELSIOR Ltd. Jan. 4, 1961 [Dec. 18, 1959], No. 43046/59. Class 38 (4). An electrically fired detonator, not shown, connected to terminals 7, 8 of a portable shot exploder is fired when a condenser 4 charged from the high-voltage output of a D.C. converter 2 is discharged through it. The D.C. converter 2 derives its low voltage impact from a small number of 1¢-volt cells 1 and charges the condenser 4 through switch member 5 when it is connected to the terminal 3. The detonator is fired; when the condenser is subsequently discharged through it, by moving switch member 5 so as to abut terminal 6. The D.C. converter may preferably consist of a pair of transistors used as an oscillating switch, followed by a voltage step-up transformer and a bridge rectifier. The voltage output of the converter may be adjusted to suit varying detonator circuit conditions and the oscillation of the switch maintained by a regenerative winding on the step-up transformer or by a separate transistor oscillator.
