Abstract

911,654. Moulding gloves by dipping. LONDON RUBBER CO. Ltd. Aug. 22, 1961 [Aug. 23, 1960], No. 29141/60. Class 87(2). Hollow articles, e.g. gloves and balloons are moulded by pivotally mounting format-carrying arms 21 on an endless driving chain 10 for movement in a plane transverse to the direction of motion of said chain 10, formers 24 being mounted for pivotal movement relative to the arms 21 about axes parallel to the pivot axes of the arms 21. The formers 24 are dipped into a tank 30 by allowing rollers 27 to move along rails 28 and a cam plate 29, raised to a horizontal position by either admitting fluid pressure to a cylinder 42 which operates parallel linkage 41 and moves a bar 38 against a cylindrical portion 25 of the former or engaging curved cam tracks against the cylindrical portions 25, and transferred to a fixed track 37 (see Fig. 3 not shown), by moving a carriage 46 and rotating belts 48, 49 to the dotted position so that the belts 48, 49 engage the cylindrical portions 25 and cause them to roll on to the track 37. The carriage 46 is coupled to the chain 10, during its travel in the same direction as the chain, by a latch 56 so that they move at the same speed. The formers may be returned to a vertical position by a similar device to that which raised them horizontally, or by helical tracks acting on the cylindrical portions 25 of the formers. To ensure the formers hang vertically for dipping, forked members 73 (see Fig. 7 not shown), are caused to press sub-arms 23 downwards. These members 73 are attached to the chain 10 by an arm 74 so that the frame 68 moves with the chain. If it is required not to dip some formers 24 into the tank 30 a gate 34 is positioned so that auxiliary rollers 32 are caused to run along a track 33.
