Abstract

911,436. Valves. WILMOT-BREEDEN Ltd. Nov. 20, 1959 [Nov. 27, 1958], No. 38276/58. Class 135. A fluid-control slide valve comprises a body 4, 5, 6 having at least one inlet port 7 and outlet port 9 and a longitudinally sliding valve plate 10 mounted for reciprocable movement in the body and having formed therein a passage or passages 16, 17, 18 for communication with the inlet and outlet ports, the valve plate being mounted on roller or ball-bearings 11 so as to provide a predetermined clearance between the plate and the body. The valve plate 10 is formed with ribs 12, 13 which together with the adjacent faces of the body members 16, 17, 18 form the grooves for the balls 11. The operative surfaces of the plate 10 are formed with grooves 14, 15 connecting the passages 16, 17, 18, the grooves being divided into three portions by sleeves 19, 20. As applied to a device such as a reversible motor, the plate 10 is moved to the right of the position shown in Fig. 2, thereby allowing pressurized fluid to enter the inlet 7 and pass through the outlet 9 via the passages 16 and grooves 14, 15; exhaust fluid from the motor passes through a port 8, groove 15 and passages 17, 23 Movement of the plate 10 in the opposite direction reverses the direction of flow. Bores 21, 22 are provided in order to equalize the pressure on each side of the plate 10.
