Abstract
1351222 Valves A E I OLSSON 29 June 1971 [10 July 1970 23 March 1971] 30389/71 Heading F2V A pressure reducing valve has a piston 5 controlling flow from inlet 2 to outlet 3 via equallength passages 7-9 opened in succession as the piston responds to the pressure difference thereacross acting against spring 6. When flow from the outlet is arrested, pressure equalizes across the piston, due to leakage around the piston or through a by-pass, and spring 6 returns the piston to its closed position. The passages 7-9 may alternatively be formed by grooves and may be provided in the piston rather than in the housing. In Fig. 5, flow takes place through passages 29-31 in an inner piston 14 surrounded by outer piston 13, the pistons being spring- biased at 24, 15 respectively, but piston 13 responding to a given change in 'the inlet-outlet pressure differential by moving a greater distance than piston 14. Restrictor 19 controlling admission to and from chamber 18 damps the response of piston 13. In Fig. 6, not shown, outlet fluid has unrestricted access to chamber 18 and piston 14 is biased by bellows (26) which replaces or supplements spring 24 and damps response of piston 14.
