Abstract

698,801. Hydraulic machines: hydraulic couplings. KEELAVITE CO., Ltd. June 8, 1951 [April 24, 1950], No. 9987/50. Class 69(ii) A control system for a reversible hydraulic motor G<SP>4</SP> having inlet and outlet ports G<SP>2</SP>, G<SP>3</SP> the functions of which may be reversed to reverse the motor, comprises a pressure supply passage A from a pump A<SP>1</SP>, connected to a port E of a reversing valve E<SP>1</SP>, having ports E<SP>4</SP>, E<SP>5</SP> connected to the motor G<SP>4</SP> and ports E<SP>2</SP>, E<SP>3</SP> connected to a relief passage F connected to a reservoir F<SP>1</SP>, and arranged so that in neutral position it connects each of the motor ports E<SP>4</SP>, E<SP>5</SP> to the passage F and when moved in either direction it progressively disconnects one or other of the ports E<SP>4</SP>, E<SP>5</SP> from the passage F and connects it to the port E. A pressure responsive relief valve in the passage A has a member B responsive to the pressure difference between a chamber Q<SP>4</SP> connected to the passage A and a chamber Q<SP>5</SP> connected to one or other of the ports G<SP>2</SP>, G<SP>3</SP> through an automatic change-over valve H<SP>2</SP> which connects the chamber Q<SP>5</SP> to whichever of the two motor ports is at the moment at the higher pressure. The relief valve comprises a piston member B' and a coaxial valve member B<SP>1</SP> communicating with the passage F. The change over valve H<SP>2</SP> comprises a chamber having two valve seats H<SP>3</SP>, H<SP>4</SP> connected to the motor ports G<SP>2</SP>, G<SP>3</SP> either of which may be closed by a ball valve H<SP>1</SP>; the chamber is connected by a pipe J and a leak orifice K to the chamber Q<SP>5</SP> and through a spring pressed ball valve L to the passage F. The valves E<SP>1</SP>, B, L are mounted in a single block M, Fig. 5, the valve E<SP>1</SP> comprising recesses N, N<SP>4</SP> connected to the pasage F, recesses N<SP>1</SP>, N<SP>3</SP> connected to the ports G<SP>2</SP>, G<SP>3</SP> and a recess N<SP>2</SP> connected to the passage A. The recesses N-N<SP>4</SP> are controlled by a hand controlled valve O having a waisted portion O<SP>2</SP> with frusto-conical extensions O<SP>5</SP> which give a rate of progressive opening and closing of the inlet and outlet recesses N<SP>1</SP>, N<SP>3</SP> substantially in proportion to the movement of the valve O. Channels O<SP>4</SP> connect the ports N<SP>3</SP>, N<SP>4</SP> and N, N' when the valve O is in the neutral position. A spring pressed valve Q<SP>2</SP> on the piston B<SP>3</SP> permits excessive pressure in the chamber Q<SP>4</SP> to vent to the passage F through the valve L.
