Abstract

A crystalline polyolefin, such as polypropylene, is stabilized with an organic compound <FORM:0910880/IV(a)/1> wherein R is aryl or an alkyl, alkoxy or acyl substituted aryl group, R1 is H or alkyl, R11 is H or hydroxyl, and R111 is hydroxyl or metaloxy or aryl or an alkyl, alkoxy or acyl substituted aryl group. In examples the stabilizers used are 3-benzenesulphaminobenzophenone, 3-benzenesulphamino-p-methoxybenzophenone, 3-benzenesulphaminosalicyclic acid, 3-(p-toluenesulphaminomethyl)benzophenone, 2-benzenesulphaminobenzoic acid and tin-2-benzenesulphaminobenzoate. Antiacids such as calcium stearate also may be present. Solvents may be used in forming the compositions, which may be made into fibres, filaments and film. Specification 828,791 is referred to.
