941,864. Polyolefin/stabilizer compositions. MONTECATINI SOC. GENERALE PER L'INDUSTRIA MINERARIA E. CHIMICA. May 14, 1962 [May 17, 1961], No. 18400/62. Heading C3P. A crystalline olefin polymer is stabilized with one or more thioethers of formula wherein R is alkyl or aryl, e.g. methylthiobenzothiazole. Optional ingredients are anti-acid agents such as calcium stearate, other stabilizers such as 4,4<SP>1</SP>-thio-bis-6-t-butyl-m-cresol and lauryl thiodipropionate, and basic nitrogen compounds such as polyalkyleneimines, dichloroethane/ amine or epichlorhydrin/amine condensation products and polyvinylpyridines. Solvents may be used in forming the compositions. In an example a polypropylene/methylthiobenzothiazole composition is spun and stretched and the stability to ageing is determined. The compositions may be formed into filaments, fibres, films, yarns and tapes.
