Abstract

<PICT:0910746/III/1> <PICT:0910746/III/2> In a machine for folding the margin of a workpiece W (see Group VIII) molten thermoplastic adhesive is applied to the workpiece margin through a nozzle 12, Fig. 9. The adhesive is fed in rod form, by a pair of intermittently driven feed rollers, to melting apparatus and thence extruded from the nozzle 4 by an intermittently driven pump, in a manner similar to that dissolved in Specification 749,892. A shaft 152, Fig. 4, driving the adhesive feed rolls and pump, and an adhesive control-valve 166, 168, Fig. 9, are under the control of a solenoid-operated lever 164, Fig. 4, which is raised when the machine is started; when the machine is stopped, lever 164 is lowered to disengage a latch 158 from a notched oscillating lever 156 and interrupt the drive therefrom to shaft 152, and a bell crank 192 is moved to release a cable 174, Figs. 4 and 9, and close valve 166, 168. The workpiece W is advanced intermittently by an oscillating hammer and anvil and by an intermittently driven feed wheel 46, Fig. 9, which cooperates with a rotary disc 42 in the surface of the feed table 32.
