Abstract

<PICT:0768362/III/1> <PICT:0768362/III/2> In a machine for folding margins of leather (see Group VIII), molten thermoplastic cement is fed intermittently to the folded edge of the workpiece W, Fig. 5, through outlets 72 in the creaser foot 26 fed through a passage 70 controlled by a needle valve 76. Valve 76 is opened, against a spring 98, by a cable 104 acting via a lever 90 pivoted at 92. Cable 104 is connected to a slide 108, Fig. 4, movable, against a spring 112, by a laterally-extending lever 124. Lever 124 also operates, by releasing pressure on a pin 126, to close a connection between a power-operated drive mechanism and a gear pump mounted on the creaser foot carrier 132. The gear pump is driven in steps, at such times as pin 126 is released from pressure by lever 124, by mechanism similar to that described for a corresponding purpose in Specification 749,660. Lever 124 is operatorcontrolled, e.g. by means of a treadle-actuated switch which energizes a solenoid to start feeding of the work. A strip or rod of thermoplastic material is supplied by feed wheels through a tube 262 to a heated casing 190 containing a cement supply unit including the gear pump; the latter delivers molten cement, past a thermostaticallycontrolled electric heater in carrier 132, to valve 76.
