Abstract

910,720. Hydraulic shock absorbers. WOODHEAD-MONROE Ltd. March 9, 1961 [March 17, 1960], No. 9474/60. Class 108(3). An hydraulic lever type shock absorber of the kind incorporating two pistons 12, 13 slidable in two parallel cylinders 10, 11 which, in the normal operative position of the shock absorber, will be disposed with their longitudinal axes substantially vertical is characterised in that each piston is provided with a resistance valve assembly which allows a controlled passage of fluid therethrough on both compression and retractive strokes. The pistons 12, 13, coupled by rods 14, 15 to a common rocker plate assembly 16 splined to a shaft 17, each have a central bore 18 with a lower annular recess 19 within which is housed a retraction-relief disc valve 20 which is urged upon a seating 21 by a disc spring 23 held in position by a split ring. The outlet opening of a transverse bore 25, which joins a blind bore 25 in the stem 22 of the disc valve 20, is controlled by a compression-relief sleeve valve 26. A spring 27, constrained between an abutment 28 on the upper end of the stem 22 and the sleeve valve 26, urges the latter into its closed position in abutment with the disc valve 20.
