Abstract
910,695. Moulds; soldering. BRITISH IRON & STEEL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. Feb. 17, 1961 [March 8, 1960], No. 8148/60. Classes 83 (1), 83 (2) and 83 (4). A mould, particularly for continuous casting has a wall part constituted by a rigid backing plate 10 grooved on one face, and a sheet of thermally conductive material 12 overlying said face and bonded thereto at points between the grooves. The backing plate may be of steel, the liner of copper and the two brazed or soldered together. The comers of the mould cavity may be rounded as by shaping the liner, or by the use of a fillet 19, Fig. 3. The liner may be machined away after damage in service and a new one brazed into place. Soldering.-Pre-fluxed silver solder strips are laid on the backing plate between the grooves and the assembly pressed together between heavy steel plates pre-heated to 900‹ C.
